During this interactive session, PwC and 3 industry panelists will discuss how Medical Affairs organizations are utilizing digital platforms and technology to collect, analyze and report on Medical Insights. The presentation will utilize industry benchmarking data, market trends, and practical insight from organizational leaders and panelists.
Objectives:
This MAPS podcast introduces listeners to social listening to gather insights and discusses implementation, value and technologies.
MAPS speaks with co-leads of the Insights Focus Area Working Group (FAWG) about the current state and future directions for Insights in Medical Affairs.
The importance of medical insights is well recognized across the pharmaceutical industry as a key driver for informing and shaping strategy and tactics. To gain a better understanding of this pivotal Medical Affairs activity, the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) conducted two membership surveys specifically addressing insights. The surveys highlighted a wide variation in how companies approach medical insights, without any obvious areas of best practice or common frameworks in use despite the current recognition of the importance and relevance of medical insights. The survey results indicate the need to identify a common framework across Medical Affairs for insight-related activities (i.e., insights or information generation, curation, collation, reporting, and utilization). Establishing such a framework is necessary to optimize medical insights’ impact and value in a broader organizational strategy.
This paper explores how moving from a fragmented approach focused on individual Medical Affairs channels (e.g., MSLs or Medical Information) to a more holistic, multi-channel, integrated approach to insights will create value for the organization, as well as for patients and the medical and scientific community.
a) Create a community to connect MA professionals who have experience and an interest in building an organizational framework for medical insights.
b) Have a robust discussion on how to build a framework that enables MSL insights to inform medical strategy at both the local and global level.
c) Share best practices on how to communicate the impact and value of medical insights.
The COVID-19 pandemic is significantly changing the healthcare landscape. Normally, Medical Affairs organizations rely upon MSL insights to understand changes in the healthcare landscape and identify challenges and opportunities around these trends. However, COVID-19 has shifted face-to-face interactions with collaborator HCPs to virtual meetings and limited introductory meetings with new HCPs. This has made it more challenging for MSL teams to generate and record insights.
The topic of this webinar is how Medical Affairs teams can continue to identify strategic opportunities to improve outcomes for the organization, HCPs and patients despite limited interactions with HCPs.
The pandemic is an opportunity for Medical Affairs teams to use creative ways to help their organizations understand changes in the healthcare landscape, such as how COVID-19 is changing medical practice. Attend this webinar to learn how to generate insights through digitally-based interactions without directly engaging HCPs. We will discuss and share various ways that MSLs can generate insights through digital mechanisms, from attending "live" virtually-broadcast panel sessions to following influential KOLs on Twitter.
-Identify ways to understand the key trends, such as how medical practice is changing in response to COVID-19, in their therapeutic areas by using insights obtained from digital sources
-Understand ways MSLs can collect insights without interacting with HCPs directly
-Understand how clinical practice is changing and which actions to take in the short- and long-term.
Identifying trends and determining the “so what” from medical insights is one of the best ways for Medical Affairs to demonstrate value. However, many organizations struggle to efficiently collect, analyze, and act on insights. Our objective is to collaborate in the development of new areas of industry standards and guidance for medical insights processes. While insights are a priority for Medical Affairs leadership, there currently exists little guidance in the way of industry standards. In this webinar, we hope to advance a set of standards that Medical Affairs leaders can use as a starting point to customize and develop cutting-edge medical insights processes for their own organizations.
In the webinar, we will share some common challenges with insights and propose easy-to-use, technology-enabled solutions. These challenges and solutions include:
