Sascha Johannes, Medical Affairs Director at Thermo Fisher Scientific, is a clinical research scientist (PhD) with more than 8 years of experience in the clinical profiling of innovative in vitro diagnostics. His focus has been on expanding utility of immunoassay biomarkers in infectious disease, oncology and women’s health. Prior to his current position at Thermo Fisher Scientific he has worked in growing roles of responsibility accelerating clinical evidence generation and fostering scientific engagement programs. Dr. Johannes is driven by the passion to improve patient management and outcomes through optimized diagnostic workflows. Based in the greater Berlin area, he interacts with national and international colleagues, experts, medical societies and professional working groups. Dr. Johannes is currently building a Center of Excellence for Medical Affairs within his organization and would like to bring his spirit of advancing best practices and elevating the strategic weight of Medical Affairs to our Medical Affairs Professional Society.Â
Volker Liebenberg, Director Medical Affairs EMEA at Illumina, is a physician with more than 15 years of experience in the development and commercialization of in-vitro diagnostics (IVD). His focus has been on implementation of innovative technologies, especially molecular diagnostics, to improve healthcare at scale. Prior to illumina he was with several molecular diagnostic companies including QIAGEN GmbH, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. and Epigenomics AG, where he gained experience and drove implementation of novel biomarkers and IVD-products across various indications in oncology, infectious disease and prenatal screening. Dr. Liebenberg’s passion is to improve patient care by innovating diagnostic technologies and translating them into routine care. Based in Berlin, he interacts with societies, leading medical institutions and companines across the globe driving the generation and dissemination of evidence proving the value of diagnostics.
Suzanne Giordano, Ph.D. joined Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 2012 and is currently Vice President and Head of Field Medical. Â In this role Suzanne has direct responsibility for the US field-based teams including HEOR Liaisons and Medical Science Liaisons across the Sunovion portfolio. She has led several Sunovion initiatives including leading the clinical and medical affairs patient engagement working group.
Dr. Giordano earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook and conducted postdoctoral research in Neuroscience followed by an Associate Professor position in Neuroscience. She was awarded fellowships by the American Brain Tumor Association and The Alexander von Humboldt Organization and a grant by the National science Foundation.
Before coming to Sunovion Suzanne held a positions as Senior Director and Medical Affairs Area Lead for Women’s Health at Pfizer; Director of Scientific Communication at Abbott and started her industry career at Novartis as a field based Medical Science Associate.
Suzanne has 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry which includes both field-based and in house roles within medical affairs.
