MAPS Elects Tamas Andras Koncz, MD, PhD as EMEA Region President

MAPS is honored to announce the election of Tamas Andras Koncz, MD, MSc, PhD as EMEA Regional President. Tamas has previously filled many MAPS roles including sitting on the Board of Directors since 2022, co-leading the MAPS Learning and Development Committee, and was executive co-chair of the MAPS 2022 Americas and MAPS 2024 EMEA Annual Meetings. Tamas was also a lead author of the MAPS textbook chapter titled “Medical Affairs Collaborations Across the Drug/Device Development Lifecycle.”

“Tamas makes Medical Affairs better,” says Travis Hege, Chief Executive Officer, MAPS. “He brings passion and direction to the function – as well as a willingness to address difficult issues within the profession. Tamas will be essential in continuing the growth of the EMEA region and help advance the Medical Affairs profession globally.”

Tamas is a medical doctor and economist by primary training. He also holds an MSc in Health Economics and in Pharmaceutical Medicine and a PhD. Over the course of 20 years, he has held various leadership positions at Pfizer, where he currently leads the company’s “Accord for a Healthier World” medical program. Previous roles at Pfizer have included Chief Medical Officer for the Inflammation and Immunology business, Chief Medical Affairs Officer for International Developed Markets, and regional and UK country roles in Medical Affairs and Health Economics and Outcomes Research. He is based in New York, NY and Madrid, Spain.

“Ever since I started volunteering with MAPS, I have felt the organization’s energy and have experienced the excitement of Medical Affairs professionals joining a global community that represents their interests,” Tamas says. “Our profession is maturing. The MAPS organization is growing. And I’m motivated to help lead the further development of the Medical Affairs profession in the EMEA region and around the world.”

MAPS recently completed its 2024 EMEA Annual Meeting in Madrid under Tamas’s leadership, with sessions focusing on the meeting theme “From Action to Impact.” The MAPS 2025 EMEA Annual Meeting will be held in London, 11-13 May. Additional MAPS events in the EMEA region include MasterClasses in Amsterdam, Basel, and Berlin, as well as in-person and virtual MAPS Chapter Events.
