April Adams, PharmD, Senior Director of US CV Field Team for Bristol Myers Squibb is a focused and strategically driven leader in Medical Affairs with over 21 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Her past roles include being an MSL, an MSL Regional Director, and Global Director for Field Medical Excellence. During her career she has built and led many field teams supporting different therapy areas including oncology, respiratory, neuroscience, cardiovascular, rheumatology, and pain management. Her passion is working to ensure the impact and value of the field medical team through actionable medical insights.
April received her PharmD degree from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Pharmacy Arts from David Lipscomb University. Upon graduating from pharmacy school, she spent 9 years working in pediatrics, long term care, general medicine and academia. She is a registered pharmacist in the state of Georgia where she has lived since 1987. She and her husband, Bryan, have been married for 31 years and have two daughters.
Dr Ashton Harper studied medicine at University College London graduating with both an MBBS and a B.Sc. in physiology and pharmacology. He worked as a doctor in the NHS and trained as a gastrointestinal surgeon achieving membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. During training he was awarded a post-graduate travelling fellowship to visit the Cleveland Clinic in the USA to observe world leading doctors manage inflammatory bowel disease. In 2015 he joined Protexin, a UK based biotechnology company developing microbiome focused products. Ashton was the Medical Director for the company following its acquisition by ADM in 2018. He joined Roche Diagnostics in August 2020 as Head of Medical Affairs for the UK & Ireland where he leads a team responsible for clinical research across oncology, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, critical care and women’s health. During his career in industry he has designed and initiated numerous novel interventional clinical trials in a range of therapeutic areas and has lectured frequently on an international stage. He has published in the fields of surgery, gastroenterology, neurology, infectious diseases and microbiology, and has presented his work at multiple national and international medical congresses.
Sameer heads a business unit at Indegene focusing on services to Medical Affairs organizations in life sciences companies. Sameer drives the overall P&L through sales and marketing efforts, capability building, innovation and delivery. He is also setting up a new service line (value proposition, capability mix, resourcing, external partnership, key client wins) to increase market penetration and drive business growth. He is also the global client partner for several of the top accounts at Indegene. He is responsible for managing a team of professionals based in multiple geographies with a mandate to grow Indegene’s business across service lines.
Sameer has over twenty-two years of experience both in the pharmaceutical industry as well as on the services side. Prior to joining Indegene, Sameer has served a variety of leadership roles in companies like GlaxoSmithKline and Sudler & Hennessey. His expertise lies in building long-term strategic client relationships; developing programs to address specific business problems; and effectively executing against set objectives.
Sameer is an MBA in Marketing with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Technology.
Helen Kane is a pharmacist by background and had a successful 25 year career in Medical Affairs working at Novartis, Roche and Celgene. In 2010 Helen was a founding member of the first professional association for MSLs within the UK and Ireland, the MSLA. She was proud to serve as Chair between 2012-15 and it was during this time that she became recognised as a passionate advocate for the MSL. In 2016 Helen left corporate life and became a consultant with a core focus on supporting organisations to deliver and drive MSL excellence. As the demand for her consultancy services grew, Helen launched One MSL as a specialist medical affairs training consultancy with a mission to maximise the impact of the MSL and wider medical function in an evolving industry.
Helen is often heard to say that is indeed a beautiful thing which a passion and a career come together. She engages widely within pharma through webinars, podcasts, surveys and social media. Helen is proud to be involved with MAPs and is truly honoured to be the MAPs Co-Chapter lead for the UK and Ireland.
