What is the Mentorship Program?

The MAPS Mentorship Program connects Medical Affairs professionals with industry leaders, offering support, professional development, and career guidance. It is exclusive to MAPS members. Apply before the deadline as spaces are limited.

Mentor Testimonial Videos

Available Program Segments for 2025:

Applicants have the option to select what segment to be considered for during the application process.

Early Career:

  1. Open to applicants with 1 – 3 Years of experience in a Medical Affairs Role
  2. Group discussion program with a minimum ratio of 3:1

Professional: 

  1. Open to applicants with 4 – 15 Years of experience in a Medical Affairs Role
  2. Individual program with a ratio of 1:1

Experienced Professional Roundtable: 

  1. Open to applicants with 16+ Years of experience in a Medical Affairs Role
  2. Group discussion program with a minimum ratio of 3:1

Additional Program Elements:

  • In-Person Program Kick-Off Meeting held in conjunction with MAPS annual region meetings
  • Virtual Kick-Off Meeting for those unable to join us at one of the in-person events
  • Up to 4 Virtual Round Table Discussion (Not Recorded) moderated by the MAPS Mentorship Working Group

MAPS 2025 Mentorship application window has closed.

Apply to be a Mentor:

To qualify as a Mentor, applicants must have:

  1. A minimum of 3 years of Medical Affairs experience in pharma, biotech, medical device, diagnostics or a related field (Compliance, Regulatory, etc.).
  2. Have the capacity to commit a minimum of one hour to virtual or in-person meeting per month with their mentee over the course of the program.

Mentee Application

To qualify, Mentee applicants must have:

  1. At least 1 year of medical affairs experience in pharma, biotech, medical device, or diagnostics prior to applying to qualify for the 2024 program.
  2. Have an active membership with MAPS or one of MAPS Organization Partners

Late Applications:

Applications received after the submission window closes, will be held and reviewed by the MAPS Mentorship Working Group after first round of selection is complete.

NOTE: Applying after the application deadline does not guarantee your acceptance into the program.

Disclaimers:

Repeat mentees from 2024 are welcome to apply, but due to high demand first-time mentees will receive primary consideration. Any applicant found to have been dishonest in their application will be removed from the mentorship pool going forward

VISION

To inspire Medical Affairs professionals of various backgrounds, experience, and levels of responsibility to create a next generation of leaders and to generate a stronger sense of belonging, advocacy, and community across the industry through a continuing partnership in education and self-reflection that leads to personal growth. ​

Mission

The mission of the MAPS Mentorship Working Group is to create an individualized venue to empower a deeper connection and exchange of expertise among members across the globe. A MAPS Mentorship experience can expand personal areas of interest, build awareness and collaboration across functions, regions and Medical Affairs organizations.​

MENTOR PAIRING PROCESS

The MAPS Mentorship Working Group reviews each application and if accepted, pairs you with the most suited mentee/mentor or discussion group available. All accepted applicants will receive an email on or before February 24, 2025, with their pairing assignment and next steps to connect with your mentor or group, a copy of the program schedule and resources to assist the mentor/mentee throughout the program.

NOTE: Applying prior to or after the close of the application window does not guarantee your acceptance into the program.

Mentee Expectations

A Mentee is Expected to:

  • Schedule meetings: meet with the mentor approximately one hour per month​
  • Discuss expectations of the mentoring partnership​
  • Develop and drive meeting agendas​
  • Take initiative and be proactive in own career development​
  • Keep manager informed of mentoring progress, and schedule to ensure that it does not conflict with assignments and priorities​
  • Participate in open and honest discussions with the mentor; be open to feedback from the mentor​
  • Develop an individual development plan with feedback from mentors and manager​
  • Evaluate progress against the developmental goals​
  • Applying learnings from this program in current role

Mentor Expectations

A Mentor is Expected to:

  • Commit to the mentoring process by meeting with the mentee at least once a month and plan to spend an average of one hour a month working with the mentee​
    Support the meeting process by:

    • Discussing and developing expectations of the mentoring partnership​
    • Suggesting agenda items​
    • Communicating before and after the meetings​
    • Assuming three main coaching roles: ​
  1. Teacher : Assisting mentee in setting individual developmental goals and plans to achieve them​
  2. Guide: Discussing work-related concerns impeding performance or career growth; sharing organizational knowledge gained from personal experience​
  3. Challenger: Providing objective and honest feedback
